Surveys

The Office of Data, Assessment and Accreditation coordinates college-wide surveys with input from the Survey Review Advisory Board.

College-wide surveys of constituency groups, students, staff, faculty and alumni should be planned well in advance. If you are interested in administering a survey for an on-campus constituency group, please fill out the survey request form. The Office of Data, Assessment and Accreditation will be in contact to discuss your plans and how they may fit within the college鈥檚 current survey schedule.

Central coordination of internal surveys has multiple benefits:

  • Reduce survey fatigue
  • Assistance with sampling, instrument design and distributions
  • Reduce duplication of effort and data collection; data may already be available to answer your questions
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy policies and regulations, FERPA, for example

Some surveys fall outside of The Office of Data, Assessment and Accreditation鈥檚 coordination efforts, including:

  • Course evaluations
  • Administrative record collection
  • Workshop, event or customer service evaluations or feedback
  • Elections such as faculty elections, homecoming court, etc.
  • Meeting scheduling polls such as Wizard, Doodle, etc.
  • Student-developed surveys using a convenience sample and used as part of a class

Frequently asked questions

What is the Survey Review Advisory Board?

The committee provides a shared, cross-functional review to ensure survey requests are evaluated consistently and coordinated against the institution's broader survey calendar.

This Advisory Board will meet at a minimum once a semester to review the survey calendar,  review any survey requests and discuss survey strategy at 91桃色破解版.

When do internal surveys require HSRB approval?

IRB approval is required for activities that involve research and human subjects. Often, college surveys are used for the purpose of quality improvement or internal evaluation, rather than research, so HSRB approval may not be required. If you are unsure whether or not a survey requires HSRB approval, review the materials available on the HSRB website.

What if I got HSRB approval?

HSRB approval confirms that a research project meets ethical standards for protecting participants, it does not authorize a survey to be distributed to students, faculty or staff. HSRB approval does not grant access to run a survey on 91桃色破解版鈥檚 campus. Surveys must be coordinated with the Survey Review Advisory Board led by the Office of Data, Assessment and Accreditation. The goals of this coordination are to reduce survey fatigue, coordinate timing and ensure appropriate use of personal data.

If you plan to distribute a survey to students, faculty or staff, for research, complete the survey request form after gaining HSRB approval. Reach out to the Office of Data, Assessment and Accreditation if you have questions.
