Military Leave
This is only a state-specific excerpt. Refer to the complete policy for more information.
Employees may take military leave for training and other non-active-duty activities in accordance with applicable law.
Indiana employees who are eligible for leave may take up to 15 days of leave per year for training purposes.
When the need for military leave is foreseeable, employees must notify their supervisor as far in advance as possible. If employees have written authorization from their military branch for the leave, employees should provide it when they request leave. An employee is generally only entitled to rights and benefits under USERRA if Hope receives advance notice of the employee’s intent to take military leave unless it is impossible or unreasonable to give advance notice.
To be eligible for reinstatement, Indiana employees must provide notice of their departure and return dates of their military leave at least 90 days before the departure date.
Family Leave
When Hope has 50 more employees for at least 20 calendar workweeks, employees who are the spouse, parent, grandparent, child, or sibling of an active-duty service member are eligible for military family leave if they have worked for Hope for at least 12 months and worked at least 1,500 hours during that time.
Eligible Indiana employees may take up to 10 days of unpaid time off 30 days before, during, or after the service member’s active duty, if that service lasts 90 days or longer. Employees must provide at least 30 days’ advance notice of the need to take this leave. Employees may be asked to provide a copy of the active-duty orders. Employees may not substitute paid medical or sick leave for this unpaid leave. Employees can substitute their other paid leave for unpaid leave taken under this policy and may be required to do so by Hope.
