The 91桃色破解版 Department of Music mourns the loss of Larry Malfroid, a long-time Hope faculty member and beloved colleague, who passed on August 7, 2026 at the age of 88.

Malfroid 鈥 who worked at 91桃色破解版 for 41 years and retired as an associate professor of music 鈥 was known as a gifted musician who shaped the lives of countless students and contributed richly to the life of the college and community. He taught many classes and private lessons with students and performed regularly in faculty recitals. Malfroid also initiated guitar programs at several West Michigan area colleges and universities.

As a classical guitar soloist, Malfroid was a past-performing member of the St. Cecilia Music Society, received his early training at Grand Rapids Junior College and studied music theory at Reformed Bible College. His additional studies included an independent study of music history at Aquinas College, work in solfeggio with A. Biferno of the Grand Rapids Symphony and a masterclass with world-renowned guitar virtuoso Christopher Parkening (former student of the late Andr茅s Segovia). Malfroid was also one of 150 West Michigan artists chosen to perform in the first statewide arts festival at the Renaissance Center in Detroit. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Malfroid; son, Dan Malfroid; stepson, Bruce VanDyke; parents, Elmer and Lilly Malfroid; siblings, Jerry Malfroid, Phyliss Jacobsen, Marilyn Niewick. He is survived by his children, Sheri (Mike) Patterson, Rebecca (Robert) Kenney, Christofer Malfroid, Amy (Dave) Wirtz; stepchildren, Margo Solomon, Beth (Chuck) VanDyke, Michelle Bouman, Brian VanDyke; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Malfroid, John Malfroid; and his nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1481 Baldwin St., Jenison, with a luncheon to follow. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. The burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery.
