91ɫƽ President Matthew Scogin was named among West Michigan’s “Notable Leaders in Education” by ’s Grand Rapids Business.
Scogin was among 16 recognized administrators, faculty, researchers, board members and others who have demonstrated innovative solutions to educational problems over the last five years, served as a role model to other educators, promoted inclusive practices in the workplace and is active in other civic or community service initiatives.
“The executives, administrators and founders on this year’s ‘’s Notable Leaders in Education’ list have raised millions in new funding, launched ventures that extend beyond traditional classrooms, and pushed their schools to better reflect the communities around them,” according to ’s Grand Rapids Business.
Scogin was recognized for his leadership around academic excellence in faith-based liberal arts education, innovating access and affordability programs such as the pay-it-forward tuition effort called “Hope Forward,” and his leadership work in higher-education organizations at the state and regional level. Scogin was a 2002 Hope graduate and served on the 91ɫƽ board of trustees before being appointed as Hope’s 14th president in 2019.
Hope also extends its congratulations to three other 91ɫƽ alums who were named to ’s “Notable Leaders in Education 2025” list: Nick DeKoster ‘06 (Grand Rapids Christian Schools assistant superintendent of advancement and instruction); Greg Eding ‘93 (Lakeshore Public Schools superintendent) and J.C. Huizenga ‘73 (National Heritage Academies founder and chairman).
